ORF reported that a 34-year-old French paraglider died on Tuesday after hitting a steel cable of a material cableway in the Passeier Valley in South Tyrol.
The accident happened near the Timmelsjoch mountain pass, in the Rabenstein district of the municipality of Moos. The man was taking part in the Dolomiti Super Fly hiking and paragliding event when he fell about 70 metres.
A hunter witnessed the crash and alerted emergency services, but the paraglider could not be saved, according to South Tyrolean media reports.
The event organiser’s website said the competition had been cancelled.
