Grödig signs contract for new village square

Grödig has signed a building-rights agreement with the newly established non-profit housing company Neue Heimat Salzburg, bringing its planned village-square redevelopment closer to construction, ORF reported.

The municipality in Salzburg’s Flachgau region has been planning the project for five years. It is intended to include affordable housing, commercial space and medical practices, creating new infrastructure in Grödig.

The project is expected to cost nine million euros. The housing company will cover the full construction cost, Mayor Herbert Schober said.

Neue Heimat Salzburg, a subsidiary of the Wiener Städtische Group, received non-profit status this spring. Managing director Robert Oberleitner said the redevelopment would be the company’s first major project.

The municipality still wants to make some improvements to the design of the village centre and market square. Planning documents for the building application are due to be completed by the end of the year, and Schober expects construction to begin no later than next spring.
