Vienna seeks public input on Augarten’s future

Vienna’s Augarten grounds are to be redesigned, and residents and other interested people can submit their views through an online survey until September 10, ORF reported. A new concept is due by 2027 and will include the fully renovated Augarten Atelier, where work is already under way.

The aim is to develop a strategy with stakeholders and the public for how Augarten should look in the future and what it should offer, Burghauptmann Reinhold Sahl said. The plan will address climate resilience, access routes and open spaces. Feedback from the survey will be incorporated into the development concept for the Augarten grounds.

It also remains undecided who will use the renovated Atelier in the future. A small museum dedicated to the work of Arik Brauer is confirmed. Gastronomy is planned by 2028, along with various exhibition rooms and space for conferences and musical performances.

Sahl said the Atelier should be available for cultural activities, including use by the federal government for conferences and other events. Associations and individuals with artistic projects should also be able to rent the rooms.

The initial renovation will cost about 13 million euros. The gas heating system will be replaced with an air-source heat pump, while the large window areas will be thermally upgraded so the rooms can be used comfortably in winter.
