Four boats search Bregenz lakeshore after swimmer reported in distress

A search operation involving four boats took place off the Bregenz lakeshore on Monday morning after a caller reported that a swimmer might be in distress, ORF reported. The swimmer was later found to be safe.

The operation took place near the Militärbad bathing facility. One boat from the water police, two from the fire brigade and one from the water rescue service were deployed, attracting attention along the Pipeline.

The caller had seen a person in the water but then lost sight of them and feared the swimmer was in trouble. Police said the person was a man who had swum some distance offshore with a swim buoy. He was not in distress.

The operation initially continued because responders were unsure whether they had found the person who had been reported missing. They eventually issued the all-clear and ended the search.

The water police said it was better to alert emergency services if there was any doubt.
