Crans-Montana fire suspect Jacques Moretti held over alleged violence

Bar operator Jacques Moretti, one of the main defendants in the criminal proceedings over the Crans-Montana fire, is in pre-trial detention after allegedly using physical violence against his wife, SRF reported, citing Léman Bleu. RTS confirmed the information.

Moretti was arrested during the night of August 11 to 12. His wife, Jessica Moretti, was taken to hospital. It remains unclear whether she is still receiving treatment, and further details of the incident have not been made public.

Moretti is presumed innocent in this case.

On New Year’s Day, 41 people died and 115 were injured in a fire at the Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana, which was operated by Jacques and Jessica Moretti.

The couple are among 16 defendants under investigation for negligent homicide, negligent arson and negligent serious bodily harm. Jessica Moretti is also being investigated on suspicion of document forgery.

Lawyers for the couple confirmed that a recent incident had occurred at the Morettis’ home. In a statement, they said the reports concerned the couple’s private life and that they would not comment. They added that the recent events should not be confused with the Crans-Montana fire, although they said the incidents were connected in a way that could not be ignored.
