Rechnitz reopens redesigned bathing lake after €6 million upgrade

Rechnitz’s redesigned bathing lake in Oberwart district was officially opened on Sunday after a nearly year-long renovation costing more than €6 million, ORF reported. The project included €2 million in funding from the provincial government.

The opening celebration offered visitors activities both on land and in the water, including canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, wakeboarding and children’s fishing. Radio Burgenland also broadcast from the lake throughout the afternoon.

The bathing lake, measuring about 300 metres long and 100 metres wide, was built between 1962 and 1964 as Burgenland’s first artificial bathing lake. It is fed by springs on the southern slope of Geschriebenstein.

The redevelopment introduced new attractions, a redesigned food and drink offering and a climbing and bouldering wall. The organisers said the lake is intended to combine recreation, sport, community and food.
