Vienna taxi driver robbed and injured by passengers
A 67-year-old taxi driver was threatened, robbed and injured by two passengers in Vienna’s Floridsdorf district, ORF reported. The suspects fled and remained at large.
The driver had stopped in Oswald-Redlich-Straße during the night when he was struck hard on the head. One of the suspects then threatened him with what appeared to be a firearm and took his wallet. The two men fled towards a nearby municipal housing complex.
Despite a bleeding head wound, the driver reported the robbery at a police station at about 2 a.m. An immediate search was unsuccessful. After receiving first aid from emergency services, he was taken to hospital. The Vienna State Criminal Police Office’s northern branch is investigating.
Suspect arrested after e-scooter robbery
Another robbery in Donaustadt, a Vienna district, about three hours earlier ended with an arrest. A 30-year-old man was threatened with a knife, beaten and robbed of his e-scooter on Danube Island.
Officers from WEGA, a special police unit, arrested a suspect without a shirt near the scene shortly afterwards. The 21-year-old Syrian refused to give a statement and is in police custody. Police said he was slightly intoxicated and also had problems with his motor skills. The e-scooter was returned to its owner undamaged.
