forestry work, road closures, Tyrol

The Villgratental road in Tyrol will be intermittently closed from Monday until September 30 for forestry work, ORF reports. The road between Heinfels and Außervillgraten will be closed to all traffic from 7.40 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.

From 8.30 a.m. onward, traffic will be allowed through for 10 minutes every hour, at half past the hour. No diversion is available.

Bus services to the Villgratental valley will not be affected because buses can use the scheduled 10-minute openings.

District forestry inspector Hubert Sint said bark beetles had severely weakened trees in the forest beside the road in recent years. The trees must be removed to maintain road safety and allow the important protective forest to regenerate as quickly as possible.
