A 43-year-old forestry worker from Romania was seriously injured after falling in steep woodland in Stanz im Mürztal, Styria, on Saturday morning, ORF reported. He was taken to hospital by rescue helicopter.
The accident happened shortly after 9 a.m. in the Possegg district, at an altitude of about 1,170 metres. Police said the man was working in steep terrain when his foot became caught and he fell.
Because of the remote location, colleagues carried the injured man several kilometres through the forest to meet the emergency services. They handed him over to rescuers, who treated him at the scene.
Police, the Red Cross and a rescue helicopter crew including an emergency doctor responded. The man was taken to the Hochsteiermark Hospital in Leoben.
Police said their investigation so far had ruled out third-party responsibility.
