Search teams find missing crash victim in Salzach

Search teams found a person who went missing after a serious road crash in St. Johann im Pongau overnight, ORF reported. The injured person was taken to Schwarzach Hospital.

The crash happened at about 1:45 a.m. on the B311 near the Heli Austria helicopter company. A vehicle carrying three people overturned and came to rest on its wheels.

Firefighters and Red Cross workers arriving at the scene found that the driver was missing. Tracks led down the embankment towards the Salzach river towpath.

The water rescue service was called out shortly before 2:30 a.m. to search the river. Fire service boats from Bischofshofen and the water rescue service were launched in the reservoir of the Graßlau power plant.

The search was later extended as far as Pfarrwerfen. The Pongau West water rescue station was called in to search the Kreuzbergmaut and Pfarrwerfen reservoirs by boat.

Search teams also covered the towpaths using an all terrain vehicle and drones. A team from the Bischofshofen volunteer fire service found the missing person shortly before 4 a.m.

About 110 members of the fire services from St. Johann, Bischofshofen and Pfarrwerfen, the Red Cross, police and water rescue service took part in the operation. Search dogs and a drone team were also deployed or on their way to the scene.
