KAGes expands digital patient information in Styrian hospitals

KAGes is expanding a pilot project that allows hospital patients to complete information forms digitally before procedures, ORF’s Styrian service reported. The voluntary service provides patients and doctors with more detailed information more quickly.

Digital patient information has been available on smartphones in the maternity unit at the Deutschlandsberg location of the LKH Südweststeiermark hospital since November 2025. The pilot project with expectant mothers was highly successful, and the service continues to be widely used through an invitation link.

Barbara Wagner of LKH Südweststeiermark said the hospital records about 700 births and that most women return the digital form. Around 95 percent of the forms are completed, and 95 percent of the information videos are watched, she said.

The hospital team helped develop the videos and digital forms. Wagner said the forms were completed more thoroughly in digital format and that the videos helped patients understand how procedures at the hospital work.

Doctor consultations will continue. The experience so far shows that patients ask more targeted questions. Wagner said the data is protected because it is transferred only to the secure KAGes system.

The service is now being introduced for stomach and bowel examinations at the Weiz hospital. From autumn, it is scheduled to launch for day clinic procedures, including varicose vein treatments, at the Fürstenfeld location of LKH Oststeiermark. Patients who prefer paper can continue to use paper forms.
