Vienna Classic Days bring 200 historic vehicles to city streets

About 200 historic vehicles are taking part in Vienna’s Vienna Classic Days, with the event’s highlight scheduled to be an evening parade on the Ringstraße on Saturday, ORF reported. The route will bring temporary road closures and public transport disruptions.
The event, organised by Brombergers Motor Mythos, has been held for almost 40 years. Vehicles will be presented from 8 a.m. at the HUMAeleven shopping centre in the Simmering district, before setting off at 10 a.m. via the Höhenstraße, Kahlenberg, Leopoldsberg and Cobenzl.
In the afternoon, the route will again cross Kahlenberg and Leopoldsberg towards the city centre. From 6 p.m., the historic vehicles will leave Urania for the Ringstraße, where they will complete two laps past historic buildings before finishing in the Prater.
On Sunday, the vehicles will be presented outside Vienna City Hall from 10.50 a.m. The route will then pass the Burgtheater, Ballhausplatz, Michaelerplatz, Stadtpark, the Ringstraße and Heldenplatz.
From noon, the vehicles will gather for the Oldtimer Picnic in Donaupark, where the old and younger historic vehicles will park in a line.
The organisers say the event is intended to preserve the tradition of historic vehicles while also attracting younger people. Participants under 30 pay a reduced entry fee.
Since 2024, the event has reserved up to 10 places for modern electric vehicles and another 10 for sporty, younger convertibles. The youngtimer vehicles must have been built by 2019. The remaining places are for vehicles built by 1999, including classic cars, historic commercial and delivery vehicles, and two-wheelers.
The organisers also say they will plant one tree for every participating vehicle. All event locations can be reached by public transport.
The parade will cause partial closures on the Ringstraße from about 5.30 p.m. to 7 p.m. According to Wiener Linien, tram lines 1, 2, 31, 71 and D, along with buses in the city centre, will be shortened or suspended between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
