A rear-end crash involving several vehicles has closed the Pfänder Tunnel on Austria’s A14 Rheintal motorway in both directions, ORF reports. One person is believed to have been injured.
The exact cause of the crash and the number of vehicles involved remain unclear.
The crash happened in the tunnel tube towards Germany. Emergency services also closed the tube towards Innsbruck.
Traffic heading towards Germany is backed up for nine kilometres to Dornbirn-West. The alternative route through the city of Bregenz on the L190 is also heavily congested.
In the direction of Innsbruck, the queue on Germany’s A96 stretches back to Weißensberg.
