A 45-year-old woman from Vienna has been taken into custody after attacking her 13-year-old daughter with a knife on a bus in Bad Goisern, Upper Austria, ORF reported. Two passengers intervened and apparently prevented further attacks.

The bus driver called emergency services shortly after 1.30 p.m. on Monday, reporting that a person was threatening passengers with a knife. Police later found about 15 passengers at Steeg-Gosau railway station in Bad Goisern, in the Gmunden district.

The daughter had a neck injury and was treated in the office of the transport dispatcher. The mother was sitting on a bench with severe bleeding.

According to witnesses, the woman had injured her daughter in the neck with the knife. She then injured herself in the neck and on one hand. Police said she repeatedly shouted “Demon” during the incident.

After consulting the Wels public prosecutor’s office, the woman was taken to the Wels correctional facility.
