A 69-year-old German man suffered severe injuries after falling about 30 metres down a steep embankment in Finkenberg in the rear Zillertal on Thursday evening, ORF reported. He was later flown to Innsbruck Clinic.

The man had been attending a music festival in Finkenberg and planned to spend the night in a tent with a friend. He did not return after going outside to urinate at about 9 p.m. His friend later found that he had fallen onto a road below the embankment.

The 64-year-old friend alerted emergency services. Responders treated the injured man at the scene before he was taken to hospital by air.

About 18 mountain rescuers, an ambulance from the Red Cross in Tux, an emergency doctor from the Martin 7 rescue helicopter and a police patrol were involved in the operation.
