Folk music festival brings concerts and seminar to Lunz am See

A three-day festival of traditional folk music is bringing concerts, workshops and music-making to Lunz am See this weekend, ORF reported. The programme includes a two-day seminar, a church concert and performances on the lake stage.

The festival, organised by the Lunz Music Association with Volkskultur Niederösterreich and the Lower Austrian Brass Music Association, features echoblasen, weisenblasen and Tanzlmusik. The setting at Lake Lunz combines the traditional music with the surrounding natural scenery.

The opening event is a two-day seminar by Volkskultur Niederösterreich, with eight instructors from five federal states. Participants will take part in ensemble lessons, workshops, informal music-making and musical exchanges at the Neue Mittelschule Lunz school.

Concerts at the church and lake stage

On Friday evening, the Zillertal Weisenbläser and the Hausbauern male quartet from the Schneeberg region will perform at the church concert “Between Semmering and Zillertal”. The programme will highlight regional differences in the music. Afterwards, musicians will gather at the parish house for “gebradelt”, or informal music-making.

Saturday evening’s programme centres on echo and melody blowing at the lake stage. Visitors can hear the Zillertal Weisenbläser and seminar groups, with the evening hosted by ORF Lower Austria presenter Norbert Hauer.

Festival ends with musical walk around lake

Sunday’s programme begins with a service at the lake. The Lower Austrian Brass Music Association will then host the state melody-blowing event at the lake stage, bringing folk music ensembles together around Lake Lunz.

A musical walk around the lake will follow, with stages along the route creating a changing backdrop of live music.
