Jean-Michel Cina to step down as SRG president in 2027

Jean-Michel Cina plans to step down as president of the SRG after nearly 10 years in office, SRF reported on Thursday. The organisation aims to propose a successor for election at its delegates’ meeting in spring 2027.

The timing was chosen deliberately, SRG said. Its key strategic project, Enavant, has been successfully launched and is moving into the implementation phase. The strategically important leadership positions have also been filled, following the new executive management’s start in April.

During his tenure, Cina led the SRG board, which also serves as the association’s executive committee, through challenging and sometimes turbulent periods. Under his leadership, the organisation prepared and advanced its strategic transformation.

His time in office included two nationwide votes on the SRG’s future. In 2018, voters rejected the No Billag initiative by around 72 percent. In spring 2026, the so-called Halving Initiative was also rejected by a clear margin, with about 62 percent voting against it. Cina strongly campaigned against both initiatives and defended the SRG.

The association’s strategy was fundamentally reorganised during his leadership. At Cina’s initiative, it also developed and established an impact model to systematically assess, demonstrate and further develop the association’s social and organisational impact.

An extraordinary personnel committee of the SRG board will prepare the succession. Until his successor takes office, Cina will continue to carry out his responsibilities as association president and chair of the board with all associated rights and duties.
