Court expects verdict in municipal official’s construction case

ORF reported that a trial involving a municipal office head from the Eisenstadt-Umgebung district will continue on Thursday, with a verdict expected. The man is accused of exceeding his authority in construction projects.

The trial began in March and was adjourned in May so the court could hear further witnesses. The mayor and her predecessor are due to testify on Thursday.

According to the indictment, the now-suspended official approved around 20 construction projects between 2017 and 2023 without the mayor’s knowledge. He has pleaded not guilty.

The defendant said there had been discussions with the mayor about every construction activity and that he had always obtained her verbal permission to sign the building decisions.
