Patient attacks paramedics and police officers in Wels

A 43-year-old patient attacked paramedics and later police officers at Klinikum Wels hospital on Tuesday, ORF reported. Police said he kicked out, insulted emergency workers and spat at one officer. He was arrested and taken to the police detention centre in Linz.

Police were called to the hospital after paramedics were attacked. When officers arrived, the man from Stadl-Traun in the Wels-Land district was lying next to an ambulance while two paramedics restrained him.

The officers took over the restraint and handcuffed the man after he also behaved aggressively towards them. Paramedics said they had been trying to help him after he was found on the ground. He allegedly tried to kick them, striking one paramedic hard in the thigh. The paramedic said he was not injured.

Police took the man to a police station in a patrol car because he was, according to police, extremely uncooperative. Shortly after they left, he allegedly became aggressive again, loudly insulted the officers, tried to attack them and spat at one of them.

Police arrested him after he failed to calm down despite repeated orders. According to the paramedics, the man had fallen inside the hospital before police arrived and injured his left hand.
