Tourism agreement secures average 3.02 percent pay rise

Employees in Austria’s tourism and hospitality sector will receive an average 3.02 percent increase in wages and salaries from October, ORF reports. About 30,000 workers in Salzburg are affected.

The agreement was reached after months of negotiations between the vida trade union and the Austrian Economic Chamber. Workers’ representatives had demanded inflation compensation of 3.6 percent.

Apprentices will receive an average increase of 3.44 percent.

About 250,000 people work in hotels and restaurants across Austria. The current nationwide minimum wage for an unskilled worker without an apprenticeship is around 2,000 euros gross.
