62-year-old woman dies after Vienna apartment fire

A 62-year-old woman died in hospital after a fire broke out in her apartment in Vienna’s Donaustadt district, ORF reported. The fire started overnight between Saturday and Sunday.

Firefighters brought the woman and her husband outside. Emergency medical staff treated the woman at the scene before taking her to a hospital’s shock room, where she later died, police said on Monday.

Five other residents received emergency treatment from Vienna’s professional ambulance service on suspicion of smoke inhalation. They were later released into home care.

The woman’s husband was largely uninjured. Vienna’s professional fire brigade extinguished the blaze. The cause of the fire was still being investigated.
