Two motorcyclists were injured in separate crashes in Vorarlberg on Sunday, with one driver seriously hurt and found to have been over the alcohol limit, ORF reported.
In Hittisau, a motorcycle collided with a lorry on the L24 on Sunday morning. The lorry driver was turning right into a side road and initially moved left to take the bend in one manoeuvre. The motorcyclist behind him interpreted the move as an attempt to avoid something and overtook the lorry on the right.
The motorcycle then struck the lorry’s passenger side. The rider fell and suffered injuries of unspecified severity. After receiving initial treatment at the scene, he was flown by rescue helicopter to Immenstadt Hospital in Germany. Both vehicles were damaged.
Shortly after 2 a.m. on Sunday, a second motorcycle crash occurred on the A14 Rhine Valley motorway. A 47-year-old rider travelling towards Germany hit a car near the Dornbirn Süd exit. He fell and initially lay unconscious on the carriageway.
A police patrol passing by happened to provide immediate first aid. The rider was taken to Feldkirch State Hospital with serious injuries. An alcohol test showed that he had been riding under the influence. The motorcycle was no longer roadworthy, and the overtaking lane between Hohenems and Dornbirn was closed for about two hours.
