Man found with stab wounds in Vienna, second attack reported

A 55-year-old man found with stab wounds on a pavement in Vienna’s Donaustadt district said an unknown man had attacked him with a knife, ORF reported. The search for the suspected attacker has so far been unsuccessful.

A passer-by found the injured man on Kaisermühlendamm during the night. Because he was heavily intoxicated, with a blood alcohol level of 1.96 per mille, he was unable to give police detailed information about what happened. He provided only a vague description of the suspected attacker.

Vienna’s professional ambulance service gave the man emergency medical treatment before taking him to hospital. He suffered a stab wound to his left thigh. The investigation is continuing.

Second knife attack in Vienna

On Saturday evening, two men also became involved in a knife attack on Sechshauser Gürtel in Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus. The men argued and fought. One of them, a 30-year-old Afghan national, pulled out a knife and stabbed the other.

The 43-year-old man from Kosovo suffered a stab wound to his left upper arm and several cuts to his arms and chest. Officers from the Margareten city police command, who were on patrol, heard the shouting, intervened and separated the men.

Police seized the suspected weapon, a pocketknife. The injured man received emergency medical treatment and was taken to hospital. His injuries were not life-threatening.

The 30-year-old was initially taken into custody. Police imposed a temporary weapons ban and banned him from entering the restricted zone around Fritz-Imhoff-Park. On the order of the Vienna public prosecutor’s office, he was reported while at liberty on suspicion of intentionally causing serious bodily harm. The 43-year-old was also reported on suspicion of causing bodily harm. Investigations into the exact circumstances and motive are continuing.
