Three traffic crashes, including one that seriously injured a moped rider, were reported in Vorarlberg on Thursday evening, ORF reported. The incidents occurred in Bregenz, Thüringen and Schwarzach.
At about 6.20pm, a moped rider and her passenger were travelling along Rheinstraße in Bregenz. Near the city tunnel, they passed a stationary line of traffic in the bus lane. At the same time, a car driver coming from the opposite direction turned left towards Hard. The moped then struck the side of the car with considerable force.
The moped rider was taken to hospital by helicopter, while her passenger was transported by ambulance. The road was completely closed until about 8.30pm, causing traffic delays. Official information on the circumstances and the severity of the injuries was not yet available.
Car nearly slides into stream
At about 7pm, a car went onto an embankment near Thüringer Weiher, a pond, and threatened to slide into the Schwarzbach stream. Initial information indicated that a 17-year-old driver probably crossed the edge of a car park because of a driving error. The vehicle became stuck on the embankment.
Firefighters prevented it from sliding further and brought the driver to safety uninjured.
Car hits tree in Schwarzach
At about 9.30pm, a car crashed into a tree in Schwarzach, according to initial information from the scene. Unconfirmed reports said the driver was travelling with two other people on Bildsteiner Straße towards Schwarzach when the vehicle left the road on a bend for an unknown reason and hit the tree.
Firefighters, ambulance crews and police were called to the scene. There was no official information on the injuries or the exact circumstances of the crash.
