Fire in Leoben apartment building forces 30 residents to evacuate

Thirty residents were evacuated from an apartment building in Leoben on Thursday evening after a fire, which is believed to have started in a faulty electrical toilet installation, ORF reported. No one was injured.

Emergency services were alerted at about 6.15 p.m. after smoke was detected in the building. The fire broke out in one apartment, whose resident was not at home at the time. Residents were taken outside as a precaution because of the smoke.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze and began investigating its cause. Initial findings indicated that the faulty electrical toilet installation may have started the fire. All residents were able to return to their apartments after about two hours.

More than 55 firefighters, rescue workers and police officers attended the incident. A crisis intervention team was also on standby.
