Shepherd dog seriously injures woman in St. Ulrich attack

A 48-year-old woman was seriously injured and an 85-year-old man suffered minor injuries when a shepherd dog attacked them in St. Ulrich am Pillersee on Thursday morning, ORF reported.

The woman, who lives in Italy’s province of Brescia, and the man, who is from Vienna, were walking along a hiking trail when the dog apparently attacked them without warning.

The woman suffered severe injuries to her left hand and had to undergo surgery at St. Johann Hospital. The man was injured less seriously on his shin and was able to leave the hospital the same day.

The 64-year-old dog owner, who is from South Tyrol, will be reported to the competent court. He told police that the dog had escaped from a vehicle parked nearby. It is not known why the dog attacked the pair.
