Court sentences reckless driver to three and a half years

A man who allegedly drove at up to 180 kilometres per hour without a licence and endangered people in two municipalities was sentenced to three and a half years in prison by the regional court in Wiener Neustadt on Thursday, ORF reported. The ruling is not final.
The man allegedly sped through Ebenfurth and Eggendorf, both in the Wiener Neustadt district, in April and May last year. According to the indictment, his reckless driving endangered at least 30 other road users.
He was also accused of evading a traffic stop and driving towards a police officer at high speed. The officer was reportedly able to get out of the way just in time.
The previously convicted man was found guilty of intentionally endangering the public and received a non suspended prison sentence of three and a half years. He filed an appeal on points of law, meaning the verdict is not legally binding.
Prison sentence for fake deposit vouchers
In a separate case heard at the regional court in Wiener Neustadt on Thursday, a man was sentenced to 15 months in prison, with five months to be served immediately. The verdict is final.
He had forged deposit refund vouchers and used them more than 100 times between February and March to defraud several supermarkets of more than 7,500 euros. He was convicted of serious commercial fraud.
