Lower Austria housing hotline records 500,000 calls

Some 500,000 people have used Lower Austria’s housing hotline over the past 20 years, ORF reported. The service provides personal advice on housing issues and aims to answer individual questions and resolve uncertainties.

The hotline team presented its figures in St. Pölten on Thursday, after handling its 500,000th call a few days earlier. Officials said demand for telephone advice remained high despite digital services, as construction costs continue to rise and new funding opportunities are introduced.

“It is the personal advice that goes far beyond reading information on a website or in a project that people in Lower Austria value as reliable information,” said Housing Councillor Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister of the Austrian People’s Party. The hotline received 32,550 calls last year, she said.

The most common questions concern renovation grants, grants for private homes, housing allowances, eligibility requirements, application documents, the funding process and financial support options. Renovation grants, particularly those related to thermal upgrades and energy efficiency, are attracting especially strong interest.

Residents can also seek advice in person in St. Pölten, at ten offices of the district authorities and at numerous home-building and information fairs. Application forms are available in printed form at service centres and can also be downloaded and completed online.
