Swiss Supreme Court blocks conditional release for Romont killer

Switzerland’s Federal Supreme Court has rejected a complaint by the man known as the “Sadist of Romont”, upholding the decision not to grant him conditional release, SRF reported.

The court agreed with the Valais Cantonal Court that the 67-year-old continues to pose a very high risk of reoffending. He has filed numerous applications for conditional release, all of which were previously rejected. This was the first time he had taken the matter to the Federal Supreme Court.

The man committed several murders of adolescents in the 1980s, preceded by sexual assaults, according to the report. In October 1989, the Entremont district court in Valais sentenced him to life imprisonment. He has been in detention since his arrest in May 1987.
