Police search for two Israeli tourists missing in Vienna

Two Israeli women, aged 50 and 23, have been missing in Vienna for five days after travelling to the city via Prague, ORF reported. The Israeli Embassy is asking the public for information.

The women were last seen on August 7 at a hotel in Margareten, where they had checked in, the Vienna State Police Directorate confirmed to the Austrian Press Agency on Wednesday. There has been no trace of them since.

“There are currently no indications of third-party involvement,” police spokesman Markus Dittrich said.

Police learned on August 10 that the women’s relatives had been unable to contact them. Officers began standard procedures for missing-person reports, including an internal search and inquiries with hospitals, in cooperation with Israel’s diplomatic mission in Austria, Dittrich said.

The women did not take their booked return flight to Israel on Tuesday. According to the Jüdische Allgemeine, their family had been trying to reach them since Sunday and found that their phones were switched off. The hotel room was reportedly empty when police checked it.

Anyone with information about the women’s possible whereabouts is asked to call the Israeli Embassy’s emergency number in Vienna at +43 676 367 2304. Information can also be given to Vienna police stations.
