Burgenland to see partial solar eclipse with 87 percent coverage

A partial solar eclipse will be visible over Burgenland on Wednesday evening, with the Moon covering 87 percent of the Sun, ORF reported. Observers should use certified eclipse glasses and position themselves correctly to watch it safely.
During the eclipse, the Moon will move in front of the Sun. Some parts of Europe will experience a total solar eclipse.
Scientific importance
The event is not only a natural spectacle but also has scientific value, according to Burgenland astronomer Stefan Wallner. The Sun is the closest star to Earth and allows astronomers to learn more about other stars, he said.
During an eclipse, particularly a total eclipse, the Sun’s atmosphere becomes visible. Such events allow astronomers to study the solar atmosphere in ways that are otherwise not possible.
Safe observation
The Burgenland Astronomy Working Group warned against looking at the eclipse without certified eclipse glasses, saying this could cause permanent eye damage.
The group will support joint and safe observations on Wednesday evening in Eisenstadt, Kleinhöflein and at the early medieval village in Unterrabnitz.
