Regional train hits car in Manching, driver injured

A regional train collided with a car at a level crossing in Manching, Upper Bavaria, on Tuesday afternoon, injuring the car’s driver, BR reported. The train’s more than 100 passengers later continued their journey by replacement bus services.

Police said the driver allegedly ignored a stop signal shortly after 2 p.m. The train struck the car on the tracks and threw it to the side. The driver was taken to a hospital.

The train continued for about 200 metres after the collision. Because the surrounding terrain was difficult to access, passengers could not leave immediately. Deutsche Bahn had to arrange buses to transport them.

The evacuation took about two hours. The railway line was closed during recovery work, causing several cancellations between Ingolstadt and Regensburg. Police said the train’s air conditioning continued operating while it was stationary.

Investigators are still working to determine how the collision occurred at the barrier-equipped crossing.
