Car catches fire in Lauteracher Ried, driver escapes unharmed

A car caught fire in the Lauteracher Ried on Sunday afternoon, and its 66-year-old driver escaped unharmed, ORF reported on Tuesday, citing the provincial police.

The woman was driving towards a farm on the Riedweg Winterweg at about 4.45pm when she heard a loud bang from the engine area. She stopped, got out and saw flames beneath the engine. She moved away from the vehicle and alerted the fire service with the help of a passing cyclist.

When the Lauterach fire service arrived, the car was fully ablaze. Firefighters extinguished the flames, but the vehicle was completely destroyed.

Police suspect a technical defect in the engine area caused the fire. The exact cause could not be established because the car burned out completely.
