Police find 160 violations in Graz e-scooter checks

Police recorded 160 violations during targeted checks of e-scooters and trend sports equipment in Graz, ORF reported. The inspections took place on Friday and Saturday.

Traffic officers, bicycle police and a police motorcycle checked compliance with traffic regulations and the technical condition of the vehicles. Twenty-seven of the e-scooters inspected had a design speed above the legal limit of 25 kilometres per hour.

Near the city beach, police also stopped four children aged between 10 and 12 who were riding e-scooters. The vehicles also exceeded the legal speed limit and, because of their performance specifications, were legally classified as small motorcycles rather than e-scooters. The children did not have the required authorisation to ride them.

Police said similar checks would be carried out regularly in future to improve road safety and reduce risks from illegally modified or carelessly used trend sports equipment.
