Motorcyclist dies after crashing into barrier in Völkermarkt

A 55-year-old motorcyclist from Klagenfurt died after crashing on the Seeberg Road in Obertrixen near Völkermarkt on Saturday afternoon, ORF reported.

The man was riding towards St. Veit an der Glan at about 4 p.m. when he lost control in a right-hand bend, left the road and hit a crash barrier. The impact threw him over the barrier and into a pond.

A first responder treated the man until an emergency doctor arrived. Despite resuscitation efforts, he died at the scene.

The B82 was closed to all traffic until 7.20 p.m. while the accident was investigated. The Red Cross, the C11 rescue helicopter and volunteer fire brigades from Brückl, Gattersdorf, St. Stefan bei Haimburg and Völkermarkt attended the scene.
