Firefighters contain blaze at Burgenland animal carcass facility

A fire at the Burgenland animal carcass processing facility in Unterfrauenhaid, in the Oberpullendorf district, was brought under control on Saturday evening, ORF reported.
The fire broke out shortly after 5:30 p.m. in a filter in the facility’s exhaust air system. Sixteen fire departments from the district were alerted, with more than 200 firefighters and 30 vehicles deployed.
The fire was declared extinguished at 6:58 p.m. The cause was initially unclear. Firefighters continued to monitor the facility because significant heat was still being generated.
