The Golser Volksfest opened to large crowds on Friday evening and will run for 10 days until August 16, ORF reported. The new four-day Burgenland Expo also opened on Saturday.
Companies, institutions and organisations are presenting themselves at the expo, whose exhibition areas include building and housing, mobility, wellness, photovoltaics, agriculture, gardening, leisure and camping.
Burgenland Governor Hans Peter Doskozil said the expanded format combined the traditional festival with a new trade fair and a stronger focus on youth culture, alongside established attractions such as the wine and beer tent and stage programme.
Gols Mayor Kilian Brandstätter said the festival had shaped the municipality for generations, bringing people together, strengthening the regional economy and showcasing what Gols and Burgenland have to offer.
The festival was officially opened in the presence of Defence Minister Claudia Tanner, Burgenland state councillor Daniela Winkler and other political and business representatives. Tanner and Doskozil tapped a beer to mark the occasion.
The beer and wine tent, amusement park and Volksfestheuriger restaurant will remain open throughout the 10-day event. Performers include Semino Rossi, Die Paldauer, Alexander Eder, Julian Le Play, Sassy and Caro Fux.
