Fuhrmann wins fourth straight world medal but misses gold

Lisa Fuhrmann has won silver at the Jiu Jitsu World Championships for the third consecutive year, ORF reported. The 24 year old from the Vila Vita Pannonia Wallern Jiu Jitsu Club narrowly lost the Fighting under 57 kilograms final to Switzerland’s Jeaninne Villiger in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, 10 11.

Fuhrmann, the reigning European champion, had reached the World Championship final for the third year in a row. She lost last year’s final 11 12 to Germany’s Franziska Freudenberger, again missing her first world title by one point.

She fell seven points behind Villiger in this year’s final but fought back to within one. Fuhrmann said her opponent had prepared well for her and that she had not been at her tactical best.

Fuhrmann defeated Pan American champion Daniela Sanches Galvis of Colombia on her way to the final. In the semi final, she beat Alisa Kharlamova, who was competing under a neutral flag.

The silver medal is Fuhrmann’s fourth consecutive World Championship medal. She won bronze in 2023 and silver in each of the past three years. She said she was pleased with the achievement but had travelled to Abu Dhabi to win gold, leaving the result feeling bittersweet.
