Two drivers were seriously injured in a head-on collision on the B21 road near Schwarzbach in Berchtesgaden, Bavaria, on Friday morning, ORF reported.

A 75-year-old woman from the Pinzgau region was driving a Jeep when she collided with a 64-year-old driver of a Fiat van shortly after 10.30 a.m. The impact sent the Jeep down an embankment into a floodplain.

Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles and suffered serious injuries. First responders, including the crew of an intensive-care transport vehicle from Zell and the Red Cross operations commander, provided immediate assistance. The woman was initially freed from her vehicle.

Firefighters used hydraulic rescue equipment to free the Fiat driver, removing the vehicle’s driver’s door. After receiving emergency treatment at the scene, he was taken to Salzburg Accident Hospital. The woman was taken to Bad Reichenhall District Clinic.

The B21 was completely closed for the duration of the rescue operation. Firefighters arranged a local diversion, directing traffic alternately via a slip road and an underpass.
