Lamparter undergoes successful surgery on injured right leg

Nordic combined athlete Johannes Lamparter underwent successful surgery on his severely injured right leg on Friday, ORF reported. The operation took place at the Kettenbrücke private clinic in Innsbruck, while the length of his absence remains unclear.

Lamparter must rest for several weeks before he can begin light training with the leg. He fractured his ankle and tore the syndesmosis ligament in a crash during ski-jumping training in Courchevel on Wednesday. He also suffered a strain to the medial collateral ligament in his knee.

Surgeon Jürgen Oberladstätter said the operation had gone very well. The outer ankle was fixed with a plate, and the syndesmosis ligament was repaired.

Light training is expected to be possible again in four to six weeks. However, when Lamparter can return to full training cannot yet be determined and will depend on his recovery.
