Man arrested after woman reports years of threats and abuse

A 29-year-old man has been arrested after a 25-year-old woman reported years of alleged threats, coercion and rape, ORF reported. The pair had been in an intermittent relationship.

The woman told police that the abuse had continued for years and gave a detailed account at a police station, according to a police spokesperson.

Before she filed the report, the man allegedly threatened to kill her at her apartment in Vienna’s Leopoldstadt district, using a knife and a hammer. The man’s citizenship has not been established.

Police identified the suspect in Gerasdorf near Vienna after the report was filed at about 5.30 p.m. He was arrested there. A ban on entering and approaching the woman, as well as a provisional weapons ban, was issued against him.

The man has not yet been questioned and remains in custody.
