Police rescue three children from stormy Millstätter See

Police officers rescued three children from the Millstätter See lake in Carinthia after a storm gust threw them from a stand-up paddleboard on Thursday evening, ORF reported. The children, aged between eight and 14, were brought ashore unharmed.

The police boat patrol was carrying out a storm-warning check on the lake during a severe storm and thunderstorm when officers saw the children on a stand-up paddleboard about 50 metres from the shore.

A sudden gust then threw all three children into the water and blew the board away. None of them was wearing a life jacket.

Police reached the children despite strong waves and pulled them from the water using a rescue belt. One officer entered the water to save the youngest child, who was already at risk of drowning.

The children were taken inside the police boat. Officers then recovered the drifting paddleboard and brought the children and the board back to shore.
