Street Parade brings hundreds of thousands to Zurich

Hundreds of thousands of people are expected in Zurich on Saturday for the 33rd Street Parade, the world’s largest techno event, SRF reports. The parade will focus on community, solidarity, respect and collective movement under the motto “Together we move”.

About 20 special trains will travel to Zurich from across Switzerland and return to all parts of the country during the night. National and regional services will run until the early morning. Swiss Federal Railways staff will assist passengers at Zurich’s stations and recommend travelling via Zurich main station or Zurich Enge. Congestion is expected at Zurich Stadelhofen station, while motorists face long traffic jams and no parking in the city centre.

The parade will start at 1pm at Utoquai in Zurich’s Seefeld district. Around 30 Love Mobiles will then travel via Bellevue, Quaibrücke and Bürkliplatz to Hafendamm Enge. Dancing will continue until midnight at stages along the two-kilometre route.

Attendance is free, but tickets to dance on a Love Mobile cost extra. The tickets are usually sold out quickly, and each Love Mobile is responsible for its own sales and any dress code.

Organisers warn that alcohol and drugs can be life-threatening, particularly in temperatures above 30 degrees. The Zurich Drug Information Centre says it is often unclear how much MDMA a pill contains or what other substances it includes. A free and anonymous mobile drug-checking service will be available at Bürkliplatz from noon.

Visitors are advised to wear sunglasses and a hat in sunny weather, as well as sturdy, comfortable shoes. Earplugs and breaks can help protect against continuous loud music, while children and teenagers’ hearing should be protected in particular. A spare T-shirt may also be useful for those going on to an after-party.
