Swiss public transport fares to rise less than planned in 2026

Swiss public transport fares will rise by an average of 3.6 percent next year, SRF reported. The increase is lower than the 3.9 percent originally planned after negotiations with the price regulator.

A second-class GA general travel pass will cost 4,095 Swiss francs, 100 francs more than today. The industry had initially planned a 200-franc increase. A first-class GA will cost 6,770 francs, up from 6,520 francs. The planned increase for that pass was reduced from 330 francs to 250 francs.

Alliance Swisspass said the higher fares were still necessary to cover inflation and rising personnel, energy, material and maintenance costs.

Other fare increases announced in March will remain unchanged. The adult Half-Fare travelcard will become five francs more expensive, while the bonus for Half-Fare Plus credit packages will remain unchanged.

Prices for children, young people and families will not increase or will rise only slightly. Swiss Federal Railways will also expand its range of saver tickets, with discounts worth 90 million francs planned for 2027.

Regional public transport networks set their own fare adjustments. The increase will be the second nationwide fare rise since 2023. Fares rose by an average of 3.7 percent at the end of that year, following seven years of stable nationwide prices.
