The standard flu vaccine for adults under 60 arrived five weeks late and has been distributed across Austria since last week, ORF reported.

The doses were originally expected in early October, at the start of flu season. Europe-wide supply problems caused by a production error at manufacturer Viatris delayed delivery. Until now, vaccinations had been available only to risk groups, including children and people over 60.

About 80,000 doses are now available in Salzburg and have been sent to family doctors to order and administer. The number matches how many people were vaccinated in the previous flu season, said Thom Kienberger, chairman of the Salzburg ÖGK. He said doctors had already begun ordering doses and vaccinating patients.
