Eight ÖBB Postbus apprentices have restored a 1965 Citroën 2CV for an auction benefiting the fundraising organisation Licht ins Dunkel. ORF reported that the car will be handed over in working order on November 11 at the ORF centre in Küniglberg.

The restoration began in February 2026 at four Postbus workshops in Lower Austria and Burgenland. The apprentices first dismantled the car, then followed a detailed work plan to restore its body, doors, axles, brakes, engine, clutch, gearbox and other parts.

Some components had to be ordered or rebuilt. Original trim strips were no longer available, so one apprentice made replacements from aluminium. The work was supervised by trainers and master technicians.

The project is intended to provide an auction item for Licht ins Dunkel while giving the apprentices practical experience. It is the fifth year of the cross-regional initiative. Apprentices from Tyrol, Carinthia, Vorarlberg and Upper Austria took part in previous years.
