A 47-year-old driver was revived after a crash on the A14 highway on Sunday afternoon, ORF reports.

Police said the driver was travelling towards Tyrol when he apparently lost consciousness, probably because of a medical emergency, shortly before the Dornbirn-Nord interchange. His car struck the concrete barrier several times before stopping in the exit lane for a rest area.

Several motorists stopped, pulled the driver from the car and began resuscitation. Police said the first responders included several medical students and a specialist doctor. After about an hour, they successfully revived the man, who was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The car was badly damaged. The right lane was closed near the crash for about an hour, but police reported no significant traffic disruption.
