Eight people injured in three-car crash near Villach
Eight people were injured in a crash involving three cars on the B83 Kärntner Straße near Warmbad-Villach on Sunday, ORF reported. Two of the vehicles left the road, and all eight injured people were taken to hospital.
Emergency services were alerted shortly after 1 p.m. The main fire station in Villach and volunteer fire brigades from Judendorf and Turdanitsch-Tschinowitsch responded. The Red Cross treated the injured at the scene.
One driver was still inside a vehicle but conscious. Firefighters used hydraulic rescue equipment to open the side of the car and removed him on a spine board. He was flown by the RK1 rescue helicopter to Klagenfurt hospital.
The seven other occupants were able to leave their vehicles. After initial treatment by an emergency doctor, they were taken by ambulance to Villach hospital. All eight people sustained injuries of unspecified severity.
Firefighters secured the scene and provided fire protection. They also used a crane to recover a hybrid vehicle at police request. A private recovery service removed all three wrecks. The B83 was fully closed in the affected section during rescue and recovery work. About 40 firefighters attended with eight vehicles.
