ÖBB will add commuter and cross-border services in Lower Austria under a new timetable taking effect on December 13, ORF reported. More modern, accessible trains will also be used on main and regional routes, while construction work in 2027 is expected to disrupt some services.

The timetable is being introduced by the Eastern Region Transport Association. Changes will affect all four quarters of Lower Austria.

Industrial quarter

Four additional pairs of trains will run on the Pottendorfer line, mainly to ease crowding on commuter services at peak times. New trains will leave Ebenfurth for Vienna Central Station at 6:38 a.m. and 4:43 p.m. Additional afternoon services will leave Vienna at 1:59 p.m. and 6:59 p.m., stopping at Ebreichsdorf, Pottendorf-Landegg and Ebenfurth.

On the REX6 service via the Pottendorfer line, Ebenfurth and Ebreichsdorf will have trains to Vienna every 30 minutes between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. Trains from Vienna towards Burgenland will run every half-hour from 1:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The additional trains will stop at Pottendorf-Landegg, with connections to the S60 at Ebreichsdorf.

Weinviertel

On the Nordbahn, two REX1 trains will start in Břeclav instead of Bernhardsthal, leaving at 3:01 p.m. and 5:01 p.m. Two trains from Vienna will also be extended to Břeclav, arriving at 2:59 p.m. and 4:59 p.m. The changes will provide an almost continuous half-hourly service in the afternoon.

A new late service on the Nordwestbahn will reach Znaim at 10:36 p.m. The morning train from Znaim via Retz to Vienna will run on Sundays as well. Services to Bratislava will also increase, with hourly trains from Vienna Central Station between 5 a.m. and midnight.

Waldviertel

A new late weekend service will allow passengers to travel from Vienna to Gmünd at 11:28 p.m. However, the Franz-Josefs-Bahn is scheduled to close between Absdorf-Hippersdorf and Sigmundsherberg for an expected four months in spring 2027. Replacement buses will significantly increase journey times.

Mostviertel

At weekends, the 1:48 a.m. night CJX5 train from Vienna Westbahnhof will stop at Neulengbach Stadt. The train towards Vienna Westbahnhof will leave Amstetten at 12:10 a.m., bringing Neulengbach onto the fast CJX5 service.
