Police seized about 2.1 kilograms of marijuana and 1.6 kilograms of cocaine in raids in Vienna and arrested six suspects, ORF reported. The drugs were found in apartments in Meidling and the Leopoldstadt district.

Investigators had been watching the group and learned that a 47-year-old Slovenian suspect had arranged to meet three alleged buyers in an apartment near Eichenstrasse in Meidling. Police moved in shortly after 7.15pm as the group prepared to exchange 2.103 kilograms of marijuana and 1.183 kilograms of cocaine. Four suspects were arrested, including the alleged courier and three men aged 28, 35 and 25.

Police said the three alleged buyers had tried to trick the courier by handing him a package that was supposed to contain money but held only plastic bags. After the exchange, the 28-year-old jumped from a window with the drugs and landed near officers from the Cobra special unit. Police seized the drugs and 3,800 euros in cash.

About an hour later, Cobra officers forced their way into an apartment in the Stuwerviertel neighbourhood of Leopoldstadt. They arrested a 36-year-old Moroccan man suspected of organising the operation and an 18-year-old woman who was there. Officers found 442 grams of cocaine and 1,150 euros. The woman’s role was unclear, though police suspected she was a buyer. Before her arrest, she managed to flush some of the cocaine down the toilet.

All six suspects were in police custody on Friday, and the investigation is continuing.
